Get to know the technical department at Sperre Air Power

Sperre teknisk avdeling 2

If you visit the technical department at Sperre Air Power you’ll find it to be a place of curiosity and collaboration. Even though many of the people working here prefer to focus with their headphones on solving complex challenges, you’d be surprised to learn how much they work together and socialize between tasks.

Testing on the go

In a technical department, a small change could result in big improvements. And when precision matters it helps to be able to test adjustments in real time.

– I love that I’m not confined to sitting at the desk all day, sketching in AutoCAD, waiting for a result. Here, I can come up with an alteration and head straight down to production, or print an idea with a 3D printer, to test the changes in real time, Automation Engineer Freddy Stene, explains.

Speaking of 3D printers, the printing sound is noticeable while having a chat with Freddy in the lab. Freddy has been working at Sperre for almost 10 years. The timing was perfect when he spotted an open position at Sperre.

– I Immediately felt that what Sperre was looking for matched perfectly with my previous experience and competence. In addition I was tempted by the fact that the job not only consisted of drawing and documentation.

Local, worldwide

Located on Ellingsøya, at the shore of the West coast of Norway, Sperre is in many ways a small and close knitted company. At the same time our clients come from all over the world.

– We are a small company catering to not only the whole world, but also all markets. Both land based and maritime, says Freddy.

– But Sperre is a small company in the sense of getting a hold of colleagues when you need them. We’re spoiled to be able to walk only a few meters to get the answers we need from anyone in the organisation. This makes it easy to get an understanding of all the processes involved in the products we deliver, says Stian Hessen. Stian is a Product Engineer who’s been working at Sperre since 2021.

– Being able to work at a place where such a big part of the value chain is located under the same roof is fantastic. Every role from design, development, and assembly – to sales and logistics are all under the same roof. That’s quite unique from an international point of view, Stian explains.

Values the work environment

When thinking of a technical department it’s easy to envision people working quietly by themselves, but is that the case for these guys? We ask Thomas Økland to get to the bottom of it.

– We care about stuff that many people look at as boring. But for us, who love to nerd about details, it’s not boring at all!

Thomas works as a Product Manager for Air Treatment at Sperre Air Power. He previously worked in the oil and gas industry before coming home to Sperre.

– I fell for the same thing as Stian mentioned. The fact that the company has everything under the same roof, in addition to having exciting and innovative products. I’ve never looked back, he states.

– I love that I get to work with people who are committed and aren't afraid to throw out ideas, good and bad. You have to like to challenge the status quo and think differently to get to the best solutions, says Thomas Økland.

Right now, Thomas, Freddy and Stian are looking for two new colleagues to join their team. Both a Product Sustainability Engineer and a Product Engineer. Maybe the technical department is the right place for you or someone you know?
