For Ørjan Wille Frøland, Ålesund has always been home. After almost ten years in Oslo, he has finally brought his family closer to the fjords and is already diving into procurement at Sperre Air Power.
Over the years, Ørjan has built a solid career in purchasing and logistics at companies like Bring, ISS, and Eltel.
– Ever since studying shipping and logistics at the university in Ålesund, I imagined working in the maritime industry one day, he says.
So when the opportunity at Sperre came along, it felt like the perfect chance to move back. Ørjan brought his family and returned to Ålesund to combine his logistics expertise with a lifelong curiosity for the maritime industry.
First impressions of Sperre
Ørjan didn’t know much about Sperre before applying. It was a job ad that first caught his attention.
– I thought it looked exciting, and when I realized the company has such a strong global presence, I was impressed. It seemed like a great place to work.
So far, his instincts have proven him right. He says the onboarding process has been structured and supportive. Starting a new job while moving a family across the country is not a small challenge, but Sperre has been both flexible and understanding. It made the transition much easier.
– The people here are just really great, and I could sense the strong culture the first time I walked through the doors, Ørjan adds.
Contributing to continuous improvement
Though he brings years of experience, Ørjan admits there’s plenty to learn in this industry.
– Even with a very relevant background, there’s a lot to learn. Luckily, my new colleagues are always willing to help.
His focus at Sperre is on strengthening the purchasing process – already robust, but always with room for improvement. He will also spend time in production to better understand workflows and meet suppliers face-to-face.
– I’m looking forward to developing my own supplier portfolio and traveling a bit. It’s exciting, he says.
A vital role in keeping operations running
Purchasing in a company like Sperre is critical. Spare parts must be available at all times to keep operations running smoothly, while balancing stock levels and costs. Ørjan is already impressed and says it quickly became clear how important purchasing is to the whole operation. He now looks forward to seeing how he can contribute – both in securing availability and in finding efficiencies along the way.
